Week 8: It just got REAL, I am in my FIRST AREA

September 3, 2018

Wow has so much happened since the last time i could email! I was at the Manilla MTC for 2 weeks and then on Aug 19 at 3:05am me and 27 other missionaries headed to the cauayan mission! it was about a 45 minute flight and then we arrived to this tiny "airport" where the mission president, his wife, the office elders and the senior couple picked us up. We were at the mission home until 6pm that night and after training, lunch, and interviews with president Hiatt, we went to meet our trainers! My trainer is Sister Correa (sounds like Korea) and she is about half of my size, and some people make comments like we're David and Goliath.
So it was about an 1 1/2 Jeepme ride from the mission home to our Area (Ilagan) and it was pouring rain outside and it was like 8pm! we squished about 30 people in the jeep and 3 missionaries luggage in it also! Man was it hot, wet, and i was sweating so much (haha good thing i came prepared with my sweat rag)!
Our small apartment is in the back of a members house and its down these steep concrete stairs and my companion call the members to help us carry my heavy luggage down the stairs! So the first thing i see when i enter the front door and my companion turns on the light is a cockroach climbing the wall and about 2 others running around too! Oh man! So i stood in our little apartment kitchen and all i could do was stand there and pray! I asked God to help me, because i am terrified of bugs, and these cockroaches were about 3-4 inches long, and fat!
Our apartment has a kitchen, and a room where i keep my clothes, and then downstairs is were me and my companion sleep, and study and where the CR (comfort room, bathroom) is. Bucket showers are now part of my life and the water is so cold, but with it being so hot outside it feels so good! The toilet is basically just a hole in the ground, i basically feel like i'm going to the bathroom outside! Everything is an adventure for me!
We have met so many of the members and all of them are so kind and feed us alot. Mamang and Papang (Grandma and Grandpa) have fed us twice and we had chicken feet, and then this Japanese dish that i think was pig feet! Oh man is the food different here!
Yesterday, Sunday was testimony meeting and they announced over the pulpet that i was going to bear my testimony and so i did in the very basic Tagalog that i know and afterwards everyone came up to me and asked me if this is my first area, because i dont know Tagalog very well. Haha everyone here loves to joke around all the time!
WE HAD A BAPTISM already, and we have another one this Saturday too! His name is Mark Angelo and hes 17 years old.
The young women are my favorite and they are so cute whenever they see me, they yell my name and remind me how white i am! i finally remember their names too. Kat, Charm, Milky, Mosiah, and Eyen!
The people are so happy here and yet they are in such simple circumstances!
I encourage you all to find a way to serve someone this week and share the light of Christ, and just because you don't have a name tag doesn't mean that you can't do missionary work now!
I love you all and im so very grateful for all the support you give me and i definatley feel all the prayers in my behalf.
Ingat Po! (take care)
