Week 74: LAST WEEK

December 9, 2019

CRAZY week!
*We had Transfers and we are now officially a trio and all 3 of us are from HIGHLAND UTAH. Our new companion is Sister Whittington.

*On Thursday we woke up at 3:30am to get ready to travel 3 hours to Cauayan for a meeting and it took us 2 extra hours to get there due to flooding on the road and heavy rainfall. Then we got to cauayan for our meeting and by noon we were told by our mission president that all the missionaries in Tuguegarao (which was around 30 missionaries) were going to be evacuated here in cauayan. So we left our apartment this morning with only our stuff for our meeting not knowing that we would not be able to go back that night. We stayed 2 nights at the mission home and were allowed to go back to our areas until Saturday afternoon. But oh boy was it nice to stay in the mission home, we got a hot shower (first hot shower since i left the mtc), and air con at night with big blankets!
The flooding was really bad here from a typhoon that happened in a different part of the Philippines. The rainfall was so much that it caused the dam to build up and so they had to release a lot of the water (and they didn't give any warning that they were going to release water), which caused many homes and roads to flood as high as about 5 feet! There were about 3 missionary houses that got flooded and some of those missionaries did not know their house was flooding until about 3am in the morning when one of the sisters beds was floating from the flood! Sister Sy, my second companion, was one of those sisters whose house flooded, and they literally had to swim out of there house!
While we were evacuated at the mission home for a couple of days we had some sisters sick and so we stay at the house and just helped with things that needed to be done and I helped Sister Craig (the mission presidents wife) put extra elders clothes away and we found this pair of pants and of course the first thing we thought was to put them on!

*We also had our dinner appointment last night with some members and there was still some serious flooding in that part of our area and so to get to their house (which was a tall house and so it wasnt flooded), we had to put on tall rubber boots and walk through the flood to get to their house. It's always an adventure in the Philippines Cauayan Mission!

This is my last FULL week on my mission and it is so crazy that it is coming to an end! I just want to thank you all for the love and support that I have received on my mission! All the emails, notes and prayers in my behalf have helpped my so much on and i'm so very blessed to have the support system that I have! I know that this is the TRUE and only church church on the earth today and that we are so blessed to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lifes!
Love you all and have a great week!
Sister Thayn
