Week 16: Just some of my favorite people

October 29, 2018
So it's true we are supposed to be expecting another typhoon tomorrow morning and some sister missionaries were evacuated to our house last night. And since it was Sunday yesterday, for dinner we had the last of the rice me and my companion had in the house and some corn beef we found in our 72 hour kits (and don't worry we will be replacing that food today), oh and a large can of fruit cocktail i bought like a month ago. So we basically had a feast last night! haha. But the storm is supposed to hit Tuesday morning and we are all prepared for it! Yesterday and today the weather has been pretty cool and i think it feels amazing, but all the Filipinos are in layers.
I want to share with you guys some of my favorite people here and why!
Sister Perscila, shes 63 and was baptized in 1985 and is such a strong member of this church! She has had many trials in her life and right now she has some medical problems and the medical care that she needs she will never be able to acquire the money for the operation she needs. When we come and visit her she is always in so much pain, but she always wants us to stay and teach her the lesson we prepared for her! Something i have learned from here is to never take for granted the opportunity to attend the Temple! Something that i will never forget from the first time i met her was when she told me her dream was to get sealed in the Temple. And if you could have just heard how she was talking about the Temple it was so special. Her husband is a member but less active and has a word of wisdom problem. And she live about a 20-30 minute tricy ride away and sometimes she says they don't have enough money to come to church. But She attends the Temple every time she has the chance which it sounds like maybe once a year if shes really lucky. So I guess I just want to let you all know if you didn't already know is that we are so lucky to have so many Temples so close to us and to never take it for granted! There are so many blessings that come from regularly attending the Temple and so I hope you can all make it a priority in your life to go to the Temple!
Sister Billeaza, Shes 53 and has been a member since 1993 and oh man does she have such a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! She has started coming teaching with us every Saturday and sometimes Sundays and wow is she such a natural missionary! We will just be in our lesson and after a pause she will just jump right in with a scripture that fits exact with what we are teaching about and its so amazing! She is also so good with people, she is always smiling and saying hi to everyone and makes everyone feel like they are so loved and special! She has taught me that we can be happy no matter what! Saturday night as we were going to appointments we were just talking and I can't remember how we got on the subject but what she said was something like "You don't need money to be happy. Sometimes we don't have any money and I'm still happy." So i challenge you all to find your happiness not in materialistic things or how much money you have, but rather in the relationships that you have with others, the knowledge that you have a family that loves you, the knowledge that your Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love you. Find Happiness in serving others and helping them to be Happy, because in Service we can experience so much joy and happiness!
I love you all and I'm grateful for all your prayers in my behalf, especially with the typhoon that is about to hit. Always find the Happy things in life and help others to feel their Father in Heavens love for them through service! Have a great week and don't forget you are a Child of God!
Love Sister Thayn
