Week 25: A Chicken, Crutches and the Gospel

December 31, 2018
This is about how my week went:
Just as we were waiting for a tricy to take us to the computer shop so we could email, there was a lady in another tricy that stuck her head out and just stared at me and said "kawawa naman" which basically means "That's too bad for you". This lady said this to me, because the doctor has ordered me that i can't walk on my foot at all because my foot got infected where i got the 8 stitches from getting a wart removed, so i received crutches the other day from our Mission Presidents Wife and now i get to use crutches to get around the Philippines. Now it just adds to me already being an American in the Philippines, haha because now i'm a crippled American in the Philippines!
It's also low pressure here in Cauayan and so its raining most of the time and so haha I just hope i can avoid all the "golden moments" now that i have crutches!
Christmas was this last week and it was so great to get to Skype my family and see and talk with them! But then for the rest of the day we went to some members houses and oh boy do they like us to eat a lot of food. Like i dont think i've done something so hard as to eat that much food. We were at our Bishops house, after we had just ate at another members house, and they had cooked a whole pig, and so His wife just unwrapped the whole pig and cut some pieces off of its body and then thats what we ate with some rice. But i seriously was having like the fat sweats cuz i didn't know if i could eat it all, but i had to cuz i didnt want them to think i didn't like it! It was all really yummy though, so it was all a blessing and a curse.
We also had a District Meeting on Christmas and we did a white elephant and haha one of the Elders decided to buy a live chicken at the market and give that as his gift. So when an Elder chose his gift he just opened the bag and there was an alive chicken with its legs tied so it couldn't run away. So for the rest of our meeting there was just a bag with a chicken in it!
I just want to share a scripture that i really loved from my personal study this week, Mosiah 2:41. I love this scripture because if we are keeping the commandments and doing the best that we can to live a Christ-like life then we will be blessed no matter what. But it doesn't mean that it wont be hard or that we wont experience trials, but with the gospel we have the knowledge that in the end God will make every thing right and we will "dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness".
I love you all so much. I love the Gospel. I love our Savior Jesus Christ. I hope you all had a great Christmas and will enjoy the New Year!
Love Sister Thayn
