Week 28: God is so Good

January 21, 2019

After having to use crutches for 2 weeks as a missionary, I hope to never ever see another pair of crutches ever again! I've learn a lot about myself and how far I can push my body mentally, emotionally and physically by working and proselyting all day long in the Philippines with crutches and lets say that God has a way of getting His work done, and I couldn't have made it through those 2 weeks without Him!
I also have an angel of a companion who has just taken the responsibility to clean my wound every day (its been over a month now that shes been cleaning it), and shes done my laundry for that month too because I cant get my foot wet and because it is impossible for me to do my laundry here with out getting soaking wet! It's crazy how close you can become with a person over getting a wart removed from your foot!
All i can say is that Ether 12:6 is our life right now. Its been hard with me being a new missionary training a brand new missionary and the work has been hard and then with my foot and trying to get creative with our work. But this week we have been seeing so many blessings coming from our hard work and my testimony has grown so much in knowing that this is truly God's work and His people!
We found a family last week, the Pua Family, and have taught them multiple times this week and they committed to come to church next week together. Not this last Sunday because there was a fiesta in the next town over. And the mom, Sister Melinda, is reading the Book of Mormon and they are praying as a Family. The mom had a dream that she was already a member and she said she prayed about it when she woke up. The dad, Brother Harold, told us that he knows what we are teaching His is true because the first time he saw us walking to his house to see try and teach them he said that he saw light around us and Jesus walking with us too! Wow not very often has someone told us that they saw Jesus walking with us! He also said that every time we enter his home that we cast out the evil spirits and bring such a good feeling to his home! This family seems to be so ready for the gospel in their life's! We teach them again today and then tomorrow we have a FHE with them and some members and Bishop who can hopefully help them to feel comfortable when they come to church next week!
Apparently yesterday when we went on splits with some member in the ward, Sister Sy (my companion) told me that the people they went to go teach for the first time asked her if shes the Filipino with the tall American. So i guess that's what im known as here is as the tall American!
This week as we were walking in one of our areas i was hungry and really wanted a hot dog and so I asked these people selling food if they had hot dogs, and the girl told me to wait and she started walking to go inside her house, but then the mom asked me why i wanted cotton. and apparently they taught i was asking for cotton and not a hot dog. So ya even the people here cant understand my English. But the sad part was is that they didn't have a hot dog for me, but don't worry later that day we found a place and i got my hot dog!
We found a place in town that sells A&W root beer and now all the elders in our district want us to buy so many cans for them! Its weird how something so simple as a soda can can make us Americans so happy!
This week we were walking on the side of a road in our area that's far away, and the roads there are pretty tight and there was a car parked on the side of the road and so me and Sister Sy started to walk around the car, but just as we started to do that there was an on coming van and before i knew it i was yelling to Sister Sy "go back! go back!" because i didn't think the van was going to avoid us. So basically we ran and hide behind the car and were laughing so hard because i probably over reacted and the car wasn't going to hit us, but you never know. and when they pasted us they just honked at us. Haha i just bet the people in that van were just laughing at us!
The members here are so great and it really feels like it's my home ward. I've been here for almost 5 months and i guess we will see how long i'll be here for, cuz my trainer was in this area for 9 months!
Love you all and im so grateful for all the love and support and prayers for my foot! I know that Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father knows each and everyone of us individually, and will never abandon us! I know that this is Christ's church and God wants to bless us by being obedient to His commandments! Have a great week and don't forget to pray and read the Book of Mormon!
Love Sister Thayn

-FHE at a Less Active members house, Sister Salvador, and her Granddaughter, Hannah.

-This is Sister MaryAnn, shes come to church 3 times in a row now and we teach her often, but she still doesn't know if what we are teaching are true. But she hasn't put in her effort to reading the BOM to know if its true and to know if Joseph Smith is a prophet. But yesterday at church she was so happy and was giving us hugs, so hopefully she has news to tell us that she believes its all true!
-Us on our splits yesterday with members, me and Sister Rochelle and Brother Harold weren't able to teach an investigator that we planned on teaching so we went to our recent convert Sister Bianca and shared our favorite BOM scriptures and encouraged her to continue to have the desire she has to serve a mission when she gets older!
-Here's a picture of me and a dog we found limping last week, I wonder if they make Dog crutches?
