Week 31: 7 Months, a flying coach roach , baptisms, and pigs feet

February 11, 2019

So we were teaching Brother Jerick this last week at a members house and this members house just happens to have a lot of coach roaches in it. And it was during the lesson that i was just sitting there and all of a sudden the fan blows a FREAKING FLYING COACH ROACH at me and it hit me in the face! haha you all should have been there, it took me a minute to figure out what just had happened and when i realized it was a coach roach that it had hit me and everyone in the lesson was staring at me to see what my reaction was, all i did was just shrug it off and we continued our lesson. Wow i never would have that i would be that comfortable around coach roaches ever in my life!
I also found out after we had taught Sister MaryAnn and we were talking about the lesson, that my companion told me that Sister MaryAnn had asked why I stare at her during the lessons. But because its still hard for me to understand Tagalog unless we're talking about the gospel, i didn't know that they were even talking about me staring at her during the lesson. But i do remember sister MaryAnn's boyfriend (who is a member) telling her during the lesson that im still learning Tagalog. So haha now im very aware of making sure im not staring at people during their lesson! But it is true, its really hard for me to concentrate and understand whats going on unless im looking at the person talking, or the person im talking to.
I played the violin in sacrament meeting yesterday for the rest hymn. I played "If you could hie to kolob" and it went good considering that i only got it practice it like 5 times before, because ya know its kind of a busy life being a missionary. But when i finished the song, all i could hear was all the members whispering about how good i was, and then for the rest of the church meetings people kept telling me how talented i am and how much they enjoyed it. One member even told me that it made her cry! Im just so grateful that one of the members were so gracious to let me borrow their violin so i could share my talent with those people i love so much in this area!
The Pua family and Sister MaryAnn weren't able to come to church and we've had to push their baptism dates so that they will be ready to make that sacred covenant with God. But yesterday at church we had 2 of the other people we are teaching come to church and we were so happy because that meant we could finally give them both baptismal dates! One of them was Brother Jerick (22 yrs old), the nephew of a member. The other one was Sister Celi (62 yrs old), the mom of a member in the ward. Sister Celi also speaks a different dialect called "Ibanag" and so its sometimes hard for her to understand our Tagalog and for her to speak Tagalog. But her daughter is there to help her understand everything and its been so sweat to see her daughter Sister Girly ( convert of i think 2 years) be so happy because its finally the time that her mom is accepting the gospel as she has. Sister Girly told us yesterday as we were giving her mom her baptismal date that she will be there every step of the way to help her understand all the doctrine and principles of the gospel!
Yesterday for lunch i ate Pigs feet, and ya know what it looked really weird and before the mission i would have never thought once about eating something like that, but its gotten to the point that you just eat what food is given to you and then at the end of the meal you can ask what you just ate so that way you can at least tell you family that you ate something exotic. haha but it actually wasn't too bad.
Its transfer week this week and i don't know if ill be transferred or not. this is still my first area and I've been here for 6 months. This ward is my family and i love them all so much and it'll be so hard to leave them if i do get transferred! All i know is that cleaning the house today for transfers i sweeped up about 20 dead coach roaches around our house! yay me.
Love you all and have a cold, snow week as it continues to get hotter and more humid here as we start to enter into the hot season again!
