Week 23: A Utahan with no snow for Christmas

December 17, 2018

So I hope all of your guys week has been great! For almost half of this week we have had a dead rat outside of our door because we didn't notice it was there until it started to smell. And then I never did anything about it because i didn't want to be the one to move it because rats are gross! But we have a heavenly member of a neighbor and i think this morning i saw him outside our door and took care of it for us!
So I have been working on my random acts of service this week and one night as we were walking down a street i saw a girl (maybe 15 yrs old) at a water pump and so i thought that i would ask her if i could help her. But i guess the way i asked her was too bold for her because after I asked her if i could help her she took a couple of steps back and just said "No, no" and then i tried to help her not be so terrified by me so I just talked with her, but haha i guess when a tall, blonde, American sister Missionary comes up to you at night and asks you if she can help you fill your buckets with water it could be kind of scary. Haha
This week has been super rainy and the day that it rained basically all day and was basically flooding in some parts of the city, my companion just happened to forget her umbrella at home. So all day we tried to fit me, 5'9" and my companion, 4'8" under the same umbrella. Lets just say that we were both soaking wet by the end of the day!
But you guys wont believe it, I've been sleeping with a jacket at night! its not that its super cold or anything, but i think that i really just miss wearing warm clothing. so i just turn my fan on high and i wear a jacket during our studies and at night! I'm a happy Utahan just trying to survive a Christmas without any snow!
Wow is it a great time to be alive on the earth right now! Everyday we have the opportunity to help others to come closer to Christ and feel of Gods love for them. I hope that we might all choose to look outside of ourselves a little this Christmas season and see those who may have less than us, or are going through a really big/hard trial in their life, or just need a friend, and help remind them that they have a loving Father in Heaven who is only a prayer away! Im so grateful to be a missionary in the Philippines Cauayan Mission right now, i know that God loves each and everyone of us no matter what, i know that the Book of Mormon i another testament of Jesus Christ and that we can come closer to Him by reading it everyday as our living prophet as directed us to do. I know that Russell M. Nelson is a true prophet of God and that Joseph Smith restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this earth so that we can one day be ready to return back to our Heavenly Father (Alma 34:32)! I love you all and i hope you are all enjoying the Christmas season! MERRY CHRISTMAS / Maligayang Pasko!
Love, Sister Thayn

-I found this little guy on the side of the road and it took us a couple of times to get a good picture, but so many Filipinos where laughing at us as we were on the side of the road trying to get a picture with this animal
-After a lesson with their mom, Sister Girly, I let them play with my hair and oh boy where they some happy girls! Charmie and Camille.
-This is just one of the many steep hills that we walk up and down everyday!
-My two favorite little boys were in town this weekend visiting their grandparents (members), and when they saw us coming to the house to teach their brother Glenmark (a recent convert), they came running to me and it just made me so happy that they are now my friends and they aren't afraid of me because I have really white skin!
