Week 33: 2 American Sisters, a flush toilet, and a boyfriend for a day

February 25, 2019

Well I made it to my next area, and yes it happens to be the same name as my mom! So Wednesday morning we took a tricy from our apartment with all my luggage and then got to the bus stop where from there I had to traveled for 1 1/2 hours on my own until i got to a fast food joint in the Alicia Area, and then told a tricy driver to take me to the Mormon Church. So now i know i can travel in the Philippines on my own! Then I got to see my new companion, Sister Gibson! Its been great so far, but it's different because we have to really be paying attention when people are talking to us because we can't just rely on our Filipino companion to translate for us! But so far were understanding people and they tell us that they can understand us (most of the time, haha) But it has seriously pushed me so hard to rely on the spirit to be able to communicate with these people! Were trying to use our ethnicity to our advantage, but sometimes i think when these Filipinos see these two white, tall girls start walking towards them they get kind of intimidated. Because many times when they can tell that we're going to try and talk with them, so they avoid us, or tell us their busy. So im not going to lie, but this area is so different with the people compared with the people from my last area, and were just going to have to get creative to get these people to listen to us!
-So we were taking a tricy ride to our far area and i was trying to find my planner, but i couldnt find it anywhere and i was freaking out and we were trying to figure out how to tell the driver that i think i dropped something, but then there was this tricy behind us and guess what! they saw it fall out of the tricy and the followed us and gave it back to me!
-So about my new apartment, i have a FLUSH TOILET!!!! never thought i would be so happy to see this toilet, it may be super old, and have weird stuff growing on it, but its a flush toilet!
-im also happy to tell you all that since being in this house for almost 2 weeks i have not seen one dead or alive cockroach yet!
-So on Valentines Day we were walking and i heard someone yell "Sister" and so i got excited because to me it was like, yay someone wants to talk to us. But then as i start walking toward the voice i heard i saw that it was a bunch of teenage boys lined up with signs in there hands saying something like 'rent a Boyfriend for the day', haha but when i saw the group of boys and the word boyfriend and i was out of there! haha those boys had a good laugh about it all!

In this area we have one person were teaching that is working towards baptism, her name is Camille and shes 19 yrs old. Shes so sweet and is definitely one who the Lord has prepared for us to teach her the gospel. A spiritual experience this week was while we were teaching her this week about the law of Chasity and eternal marriage i was able to testify about how we need to keep the law of Chasity so that one day we will be worthy to be able to enter the temple so we can have a family be Forever! Then i shared with her about how last month my sister got married in the temple and how i was here in the Philippines serving my mission, but that its okay because i know that her marriage/family is Forever because it was in the Temple! I've never felt so good about teaching the law of Chasity, but through learning and teaching the gospel to these people it is now making more and more sense why God gives us certain commandments and that if we are obedient to those commandments that God will bless us so much!

Love you all so much and hope you have a wonderful week, hope you enjoy some pictures of some very white Sisters next to some very beautiful people! But ive only been here in this area for almost 2 weeks and i've actually gotten super tan (for me), but compared to everyone else i still look super white, oh and hot season is starting again and im already sweating buckets!
Sister Thayn

-Visiting Sister Belleaza the day before i left for my next area. im going to miss her so much!
-The Noreiga Family, one of my favorite families!
-The Leava Family, also the members who owned the house we lived in, and the ones with the bakery in the house and would give us so much cake! Also Brother Leava is probably one of my best friends in that area, he's just such a kind, selfless man always finding ways to share the gospel!
-We found a less active member in our area, Sister Bautista (the grandma) and we found out that she would walk miles to get to church every Sunday by herself, but just this last year with her health she hasn't been able to come to church! We're so glad we were able to find her, cuz she cant see anymore or hardly walk, and so were glad we can share the Book of Mormon with her!
