Nothing much has changed except that my tan lines are getting better because it continues to be so very HOT here! I have adjusted to just being wet the whole day because im sweating so much throughout the day. haha like the other day in a lesson the people we were teaching and didnt have any chairs and so we sat on the ground and during the lesson i was changing my sitting position and i looked at my legs and they were just soaking wet with sweat! And as we are walking down the streets i can just feel the sweat dripping down my back! Its fine though cuz everyone is sweating here (just not as much as i am)!
We went to go teach Sister Evelyn (she has a baptismal date) and Brother Danny (hes a recent convert) and when we got there we found brother Danny asleep on the ground with his Book of Mormon on his stomach and a electric fan on him! He is such a sweet man, every time we come to teach them hes always picking up his books because he had just spent the morning reading the scriptures.
There are so many frogs here and on the roads you'll just see flattened frogs cuz vehicles will just run them over, and the other night as we were walking and im pretty sure i stepped on one, but i didn't want to believe it so we just kept walking. But seriously you'll just see things hopping all around you when it gets to be dark.
We taught a lady this week that is of a religion that hates members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was nice to us though and let us teach her, and at the end of the lesson when we asked her to pray she was willing and so I taught her how to pray twice and she was very willing to pray (which is not normal, most people never want to pray at the end of lessons) and then when she started to pray she started doing their prayers that they say at their church and it was very loud and she was saying something like "Oh Lord Jesus" and stuff like that (just imagine movies that you seen people do some interesting loud prayers). But i can still hear her voice in my head, haha and it was so hard for me not to laugh during her prayer, i was having to bite my tongue. And then afterwards she smiled at us like she knew we wanted her to pray the way we taught her, but she want to see how we were going to react. And so we thanked her and left.
People will often comment and ask us if its just the two of us or if we have a Filipino companion too, and I tell them nope its just the two of us and yes i have only been learning and speaking this language for about 9 months. They are always so surprised and a lot of the time i am surprised myself that im training an American Sister and we're able to do everything we need to do with the Tagalog i know. This is truly God's work and He qualifies those He calls!
This week we introduced smores to the Filipino Sister in our house and she loves them and now our night snacks are smores!
Right now in our area it is really hard to find new people to teach and to get them progressing towards baptism and so our days consist of us walking up and down streets just talking to people, which is hard because everyone is inside because who would be crazy enough to be outside in this heat (oh wait us!). So pray that we find some people that will be willing to hear the message that God would have us share with these people!
I love the people here so much and so many of them have changed my life for the better! A year ago i never would have thought i am where i am now, and i wouldn't change any of it even though at times its really hard and i wonder how did i get here. But i count my blessings and find the things in life that make me happy, smile and laugh and remind me that God Loves me! I love you all and thank you for all the love, support and prayers!
Huwag niyo kalimutan na magdasal and magbasa Ang Aklait ni Mormon=(Dont forget to pray and read the BOM)
Sister Thayn :)
-Brother Danny asleep with his BOM on his chest, I asked Sister Evelyn if i could take a picture and then right after i took the picture she went inside and scared him half to death by waking him up! haha it was so funny!
-We went on splits with the sister training leaders and for lunch Sister Dapper took me to a Mexican restaurant in their area and it was so yummy!
-Us and the STLs
-Brother Danny and Sister Evelyn, they are some of my FAVORITE people, when we go to teach them i can always count on laughing so hard. Like one time Sister Evelyn could not for the the life of her say Faith in Tagalog (pananampalataya), and we just spent like 5 minutes to get her to be able to say that one word and we were all crying we were laughing so hard!
